Words from Our Friends

“In the peace and quiet, I found rest and focus. My visit was life changing, I plan on visiting again soon!”

Mt. Tabor is people, a place, and a spirit that exudes embrace and inclusion. The sisters move me to greater holiness by their lives of love and by freely sharing their wisdom. Their presence is a true gift that invites me to seek God more deeply and to live the principles of Benedictine Spirituality in my life. The grounds of Mt. Tabor are sacred as a they are an enclave of worship in the midst of the busy demands of life. They are hollowed grounds. The spirit of Mt. Tabor is tangible as God uses my time there to shape me into a person who can laugh more deeply and appreciate God’s work in my world with gratitude.

How quiet it is!  That was one of my first thoughts stepping out of the truck so long ago at the bottom of the hill.  Then, over the years I have heard it time and again from so many different visitors that it is so quiet here at the Monastery in the mountains.

No road noises, no planes overhead, no city noises to speak of, no droning of civilization: just quiet.  This was the first kind of quiet that was immediately noticeable to me.

After being there for a few more moments the quiet become more than the lack of noise for me.  It morphs into a quiet of the soul that comes from removing the distractions and clutter that fills our lives.  Setting aside the constant stress of the “to do” list and the “things I must do” thoughts that bind us up with anxiety.  (Plus, most cell phones do not work on the mountain top.)  The current term is “Forrest Bathing”.  Similar but different than meditation in the woods and more like immersion for the spirit.  After embracing the quiet I could start to “feel” the communal experience with mother nature especially as the other senses start to engage with the tranquility.

As the quiet surroundings take hold there is a calming of the soul.  A quietness in the soul that allows God to make His presence known.  A true sense that there is a God and he is with us.
