“All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ…”

Rule of Benedict, Chapter 53

Transfiguration Oratory

Built in an octagonal-shape and encircled by large glass windows, the worship space is filled with light and a magnificent view of the mountains.

The shadows in the oratory act as a sundial. From dawn till dusk, you can watch the path of the sun. The outside flows inside, as you view the trees and mountains. All blends to contribute to your prayer.

The monastic library is housed on the second floor of this building. It contains books and journals on spiritual and biblical topics. A large selection of videos are available for your use, featuring retreat directors and speakers.

Way of the Cross

Entwined among the trees and rocks, we have built a lovely outdoor Way of the Cross. It is a refreshing way to experience the tranquility of the mountains and meditate on the love our God has shown us through the life and death of Jesus.

Come Spend Some Time With Us

We are located in the beautiful hills of Eastern Kentucky – right off of Highway 80, between Prestonsburg and Martin.

The Retreat Center is part of the Monastery. The monastic rhythm of prayer, work and study is like a soft blanket that one can wrap up in and take some time to focus in on what is important in life. Both women and men of all faiths are invited to come and experience our mountain tranquility.

There are Opportunities for:

  • Private retreats
  • Group meetings/retreats
  • Faculty/staff orientations and workshops
  • Volunteer groups
  • Experiencing the lifestyle of a women’s monastic community

The cost is $35.00 per day and includes all three meals. But don’t let the cost prohibit your coming, pay what you can afford. People of all faiths make use of the facilities.

We, the Sisters of Mount Tabor, feel it is a gift to be able to share our home with you. Like our sisters and brothers down through the centuries, we continue to welcome guests and visitors. You are invited to pray with us, walk and climb the mountains, share our table and our care of the earth.
